Water
Water is a precious commodity on the islands and every effort is made to conserve the supply. Lack of potable water in periods of high demand led the Council to invest in a desalination plant to serve St. Mary’s in 1992. The other inhabited islands rely on private borehole supplies, supplemented with rainwater collection tanks. In your accommodation you will probably find the proprietors make every effort to cut down on excess water usage for instance by encouraging showers rather than baths, and not necessarily washing towels everyday.
